Words and Harps on 11 & 12 September

06 September 2010

On September 11 and 12 the East Church will be hosting two festivals!

Jane Duncan, Black Isle authorOn Saturday 11 September the church will be one of the venues for Black Isle Words, and will be playing host to talks relating to Black Isle author Jane Duncan. Well known illustrator and writer of childrens stories, Mairi Hedderwick, will be talking about her early work illustrating Jane Duncan's childrens stories, and will be followed by Fiona Thompson talking about the importance of place in Jane Duncan's work. You can find out more about Black Isle Words from their website, where you can also download a programme of the weekend's events.

Cromarty Courthouse towerThere's more about Jane Duncan on the Cromarty Courthouse website, and they are also hosting a highly informative exhibition about her work until they close at the end of September.

harpOn Sunday 12 September the church will be busy again, this time the building will be filled with the sound of harp music.

The occasion? The Cromarty Harp Village weekend run by the Cromarty Arts Trust, for which the East Church will be hosting a day of workshops. We're all looking forward to hearing the church filled with music once again, and hoping that the acoustics will inspire many more such events.

We're running a short survey to find out what readers think of the East Church website, and what else you'd like to see on it. It'll just take a moment, as you'll see when you click here!

Being able to look at a building in this detail is a real privilege. It is fascinating not only to study the building fabric and try and work out some of the stages in the church’s development, but also to look at the archaeology within the church.
